This week’s photo at Friday Fictioneers comes from Janet Webb. Interesting one this. Apologies to all those I couldn’t get to last week due to internet restrictions. Should be easier this week – heading to Spain today. 🙂 There has to be some sun somewhere and I’m reliably informed that’s where it’s hiding.
“Tarty,” said Josie’s mother, lips tightly folded.
“Beautiful,” breathed her younger sister.
“Magnificent,” said the school heart-throb, his gaze lingering on her gleaming shoulders, the daring cleavage and her slender arms.
It had been an arduous climb for an acrophobic, clinging to the fire escape from the eighth floor to the twelfth. The best night of her life though… at least until midnight.
“Mine,” hissed the girl in the cloakroom, advancing menacingly with her friends.
“Oh s***” thought Josie, “game over.”
The black eye was relatively easy to explain; returning home in her underwear proved a tad more difficult.
That’s a clever story! I liked the last sentence. 🙂

Shaking my head at how adroitly you tell your tales and how good they always are. Despite the inclement weather, you’ve moved away from the gloom and doom (more or less) in your stories. May it be so in your travels as well!

Great visuals for the mind to play in – from acrophobia to relegated to scivys

You did a great job of hinting at most of the story but making it easy to follow. She sounds like a spunky, irrepressible kind of girl. 🙂

I hope that she had a private carriage to take her home in her undies…or was it a pumpkin? 🙂

🙂 I certainly hope she didn’t go by public transport.

What a girl will do to feel like a princess. I bet the memories were worth it though 🙂
Funny how if it’s fiction and audacious enough you just have to cheer the character on.

France was dreadful. It’s been as though there were a lid on the entire country. Couldn’t get over the blue skies when we eventually reached Spain. Hang on in there!

I would guess an acrophobic would have less trouble losing her dress to toughies in the cloakroom than she would climbing from the eighth to the twelfth floor on an open fire escape. Now there’s a nightmare.

Given Josie’s mother’s initial reaction, I can well believe explaining her under-clothed return was difficult. 🙂

Loved it – fairytales sprung to my mind – your character had depth, interesting idea to add the acrophobia – it makes her fate even worse.
