Weekly Photo Challenge – One Shot, Two Ways

DSC_0085I learned a lot from this challenge.  There was no difficulty at all in identifying potential ‘portrait’ shots; the majority looked fairly interesting.

But when I came to choose a horizontal shot, it was amazing how critical the eye became, principally because it really wanted to see the shot vertically.  So to capture the right horizontal photo, it became necessary to adopt a more abstract approach:

I still think it would look better vertically though.  🙂

PS:  My husband had to help me with this week’s submission, not the least by letting me actually hold his ‘posh’ camera.  Mwah!

About Sandra

I used to cruise the French waterways with my husband four or five months a year, and wrote fiction and poetry. Now I live on the beautiful Dorset coast, enjoying the luxury of being able to have a cat, cultivating an extensive garden and getting involved in the community. I still write fiction, but only when the spirit moves me - which isn't as often as before. I love animals, F1 motor racing, French bread and my husband, though not necessarily in that order.

Very interesting – looks like two different heads …. really like how the shadows has formed the face – excellent photos.

  3. Nice job giving us two entirely different views of that bust. I really like the parallelism of shooting a bust in “portrait” orientation, and then how the shadows in the landscape photo completely change the mood. Great shoot!

  5. I agree re the vertical – great subject btw and well done for reading the rubrics. I had to delete my first attempt because I hadn’t.
