Weekly Photo Challenge: Beginning

A very specific ‘beginning’ for the latest Weekly Photo Challenge:  the beginning of our dutch barge’s French adventure, back in the spring of 2008.

With wheelhouse dismantled and stored inside the boat, Desormais is lifted from the water at Newark, Nottinghamshire.

Safely hoisted onto the back of a low-loader, the transportation crew spend several hours securing and protecting their load. For a while now she will be a boat on a lorry on a boat on the water.

Desormais arrives at Joe Parfitt's boatyard at Laroche-Migennes on the river Yonne in France.

Two days later Desormais arrives at Joe Parfitt’s boatyard at Laroche-Migennes on the river Yonne in France…

The river was running fast and high after recent storms and Desormais is gingerly swung out over what seems to be a miniscule mooring spot.

In she goes. Ready now to start her journey, this time by water, to the Canal du Midi. The adventure is just beginning.

About Sandra

I cruise the French waterways with my husband four or five months a year, and write fiction and poetry. I love animals, F1 motor racing, French bread and my husband, though not necessarily in that order.

Looks great, what adventures you must have with your barge! I note your mooring is near Dijon, alas wrong side of France for me – I may get to see friends in the Aquitaine region this year… 🙂 Oh, and Happy New Year!
