Truly Vintage (Friday Fictioneers, February 2013)

Copyright Janet Webb

They clinked their glasses lightly together.

“Do you remember …?”

“I know what you’re going to say, I was just thinking the same”.

Both dipped their heads remembering the heady fragrance from long ago.

“Such a perfect nose…”

“Mmm, applesweet, cinnamon…truly one of a kind.”

They sipped in unison, rolling the liquid round their tongues.

“Perfection I’d have said.”

“Indeed, full bodied.”

The held their glasses to the light.

“It was a very good year.”

“The very best.”

“Do you ever see her these days?”

“Nah,  Nosferatu keeps all the best vintage for himself, selfish bleeder.”

Didn’t think I’d make Friday Fictioneers this week – been without internet for two days.  Bear with a sore head simply doesn’t cover it…  So it’s a quickie, before the damn connection goes down again.

About Sandra

I used to cruise the French waterways with my husband four or five months a year, and wrote fiction and poetry. Now I live on the beautiful Dorset coast, enjoying the luxury of being able to have a cat, cultivating an extensive garden and getting involved in the community. I still write fiction, but only when the spirit moves me - which isn't as often as before. I love animals, F1 motor racing, French bread and my husband, though not necessarily in that order.

  3. Oh! That was quite a conversation, reminiscent of that good year. Spooky and the ending line is what makes it all seem so clear. Creatively penned.

  10. Great conversation. I never knew vampires kept some of the blood around to age. Another vampire fact to add to history.

  12. Dear Sandra,

Glad you were able to wedge your story in this week. I’ll admit I had to look up Nosferatu. Not that I minded. Nice spin on the vampire. Well done.

I had to look up Nosferatu, but even before that, I loved the double entendre, now I’m steeped in triple entendre (or whatever the French is) and bowing to your skill. In a rush too, well done.

I wondered about the reference to Nosferatu. I’d heard the name for ever but only this week learned about the true nature of the character. Thanks for dropping by and thank you for your comment.

I thought vampire when I saw this photo, too. I wonder why that is? Does she have fangs beneath those lips?
I rated your story five stars because you packed so much story into so few words. I enjoy vampire tales.
