Weekly Photo Challenge: New

DSC_0005This tiny cygnet was certainly new to this world when I first managed to capture him on camera.

DSC_0064I don’t suppose it would be long though before he was hitching a ride like one of the brood of cygnets we came across on the River Yonne.

DSCF3280This tiny fledgling blackbird had just taken his very first flight after dropping out of the nest his parents had made next to our french windows.  I know he looks like a thrush but apparently all blackbirds are speckled when first born.

DSCN2052And these tiny lambs were still being nursed under heat lamps at a local farm.  So sweet I may never eat lamb again…

About Sandra

I used to cruise the French waterways with my husband four or five months a year, and wrote fiction and poetry. Now I live on the beautiful Dorset coast, enjoying the luxury of being able to have a cat, cultivating an extensive garden and getting involved in the community. I still write fiction, but only when the spirit moves me - which isn't as often as before. I love animals, F1 motor racing, French bread and my husband, though not necessarily in that order.

Thanks Beryl. I love taking photos of birds but usually I’m not quite fast enough. I think this poor fledgling was too shocked and exhausted to move before I reached for the camera. 🙂

That is exactly the way I feel even about hunting deer and elk here in Colorado. I don’t like seeing photos of hunters shown with their ‘prize’ lying dead at their feet. I guess it is because with us having mountain property here in Colorado we see deer herds all the time up on our lot and they all are protected by covenant rules up there from hunters. There is no hunting allowed in the private properties up there, and we always have little fawns and their mamas seen around there grazing.

  7. Baby animals are so sweet. I especially love the cygnets getting a ride on their mother’s back.

I wish the mother swan had come a little closer so I could get a clearer pic but they’re notoriously protective of their young. As it was, the male swan (cob is it?) had already attacked an innocent passer-by on the tow-path and had to be man-handled back into the water by someone far braver than I. 🙂
