Afloat: Weekly Photo Challenge

For this challenge I’ve tried to steer clear of boats; too easy.

The Coypu – probably one of the most unwelcome visitors to French waterways because of his burrowing into canal and river banks, which ultimately can cause them to collapse.

DSC_0431The waterlily; so beautiful and almost always so inaccessible.

DSCN2186Lovely to look at.  But not so nice when they’re in the weedbox or water filters of your boat, and definitely not nice if you leave them unattended for any length of time.

Yes, I couldn’t resist including my feathered waterway friends.  The one on the right is a cygnet.

About Sandra

I used to cruise the French waterways with my husband four or five months a year, and wrote fiction and poetry. Now I live on the beautiful Dorset coast, enjoying the luxury of being able to have a cat, cultivating an extensive garden and getting involved in the community. I still write fiction, but only when the spirit moves me - which isn't as often as before. I love animals, F1 motor racing, French bread and my husband, though not necessarily in that order.

Every one of these pictures is indeed a true interpretation of afloat. So clever. And these little faces are adorable. Love your blog, Sandra.

I’m very fond of ducks. The boaters who moor around us get very fed up with my feeding them; once they’ve learned food is available, they even try to get you up at the crack of dawn by tapping at the algae on the hull. Sounds like a jack-hammer when you’re below in bed.

  2. Did your little heart skip a beat when you saw “Afloat?” Talk about an embarrassment of riches in your photo gallery. I love that you steered clear of boats and shared these other images with us. I love the leaves in particular.

Hi Barbara, yes, boats would have been a bit too easy. I liked the leaves one too; on the Midi, in the autumn, you almost feel as though you could walk on them. Have a nice weekend.

The Coypu actually hold their food with their paws to eat it. It does look cute, but their front teeth are long, orange and full of bacteria. Many dogs have attacked them and died subsequently from septicaemia. Not so cute then. 🙂

I love your choices, Sandra. However, I’m laughing because you steered clear of boats, and I left the ducks alone 🙂
