We form the circle.
Lily abhors contact with Penrose; the first summons can launch her into a crazy spiral of despair, her anguish leaving us spent.
We all harbour a similar aversion to him; I’ve seen the way others avoid him afterwards, hurriedly donning their coats. His lust for the touch of her after-self nauseates us all.
The candles flicker, and a deafening hiss sucks the air from the room, plunging us into darkness.
Someone panics… breaks the circle…
…and Lily is back.
Penrose will rue this day.
Because I suspect she’s here for good.
For him.
And truly pissed.
Inspired by the photo, and a book I’ve just finished (The Possessions by Sara Flannery Murphy) this is my offering for this week’s Friday Fictioneers. Thanks as ever to Rochelle for her gracious hosting of the weekly get-together. I hope all those Fictioneers who were in Irma’s malevolent path earlier this week are safe and well, and that order will soon be restored to their lives.

Penrose should have let Lily lie. You paint Penrose as a particularly unpleasant character, suitably lecherous. I hope he manages to enjoy getting what he wish for.
