Scale: WeeklyPhoto Challenge

This week we examine the interrelationship between size, placement and scale.  Who knew the Sydney Opera House was so small?  Or that Sydney lamposts were so tall?

At the other end of the scale (see what I did there?) we tend to think of our boat as being fairly big.  Certainly no-one wants to share a lock with us when we’re on a canal, and smaller boat owners get pretty antsy when we approach to moor beside them.  When we enter a river lock, however, or are viewed from way up on a cliff, we’re quite small really.

The aerial view is taken from the Citadel at Besancon, France, and we are the white oblong shape moored against the pontoon on the right.  The other is a sister ship the same size as ours, taken as we both negotiated one of the deepest river locks in France.

And finally, just to give you an idea of how small French lock-keepers are…

this is me, bottom left, sorting out our rope before attaching it to the hook the lock-keeper is dangling, so we can secure ourselves before he starts filling the lock. Yes, we do use the satnav on the boat… 🙂
