A Friend Indeed – Friday Fictioneers, December 2018

Copyright Adam Ickes

“You’re always so supportive.”

A divorcee herself, Ellen has total empathy.

She embraces me.  “That’s what friends are for, hon.”

“And thanks for the quiche,” she calls, as I leave.

Ellen’s always been excruciatingly tactful.  She hates quiche and won’t touch it, even though I’ve incorporated the finest cheese available, and carefully selected wild mushrooms, fresh from the woods.

My ex-husband loves quiche.  He’s also a sadistic bastard, an emotional terrorist, and I’ve worried about Ellen, from the moment I first spied his boots on her porch.

So I’m helping her out here.

That’s what friends are for, surely?

Another slightly edited re-run for Friday Fictioneers this week as Christmas preparations continue apace. Thanks to Rochelle for leading us out again during this festive period.

About Sandra

I used to cruise the French waterways with my husband four or five months a year, and wrote fiction and poetry. Now I live on the beautiful Dorset coast, enjoying the luxury of being able to have a cat, cultivating an extensive garden and getting involved in the community. I still write fiction, but only when the spirit moves me - which isn't as often as before. I love animals, F1 motor racing, French bread and my husband, though not necessarily in that order.

Loved it then, love it now. Bon Apetit to the abusive husband. Savor those mushrooms. 😉 A friend in need, they say, is a friend indeed.

  11. Wild mushrooms from the woods, well good for her that Ellen doesn’t like quiche. Maybe the ex husband will find them and savour them.

This was fantastic, Sandra! You do evil oh so subtly… But girlfriends do have to stick together, don’t they? Even if one doesn’t know the other is 😉

  17. After all… Ellen will for sure wish that evil bastard dead too… just a matter of time… and after all destroying angel is the right name for those mushrooms so easily mistaken for edible Agaricus
