Sunday Stills: On the Water

An easy enough challenge for me.  Probably too easy… so I dispensed with the endless collection of hotel boats and commercial vessels that we encounter all the time, even though I couldn’t resist the odd swan or two.  And a couple of other images of subjects less likely to make you go “aaaaw”.

About Sandra

I used to cruise the French waterways with my husband four or five months a year, and wrote fiction and poetry. Now I live on the beautiful Dorset coast, enjoying the luxury of being able to have a cat, cultivating an extensive garden and getting involved in the community. I still write fiction, but only when the spirit moves me - which isn't as often as before. I love animals, F1 motor racing, French bread and my husband, though not necessarily in that order.

He/she doesn’t have a high awww value in France Susan; he’s hunted with dogs and beaten out because he makes his home in the banks of rivers/canals and causes them to collapse, flooding the surrounding fields. I always feel sorry for them; they were imported from abroad and farmed for their fur, but when the market collapsed they were either destroyed or set free to become an agricultural nuisance. They’re not really equipped for the rigours of a European winter either – many die from frostbite to their tails which leads to infection, given their habitat. Thanks for reading Susan, here endeth the lesson. 🙂 Hope all is well with you right now.

  6. Oh, that’s upsetting to read about the coypu. Why do we insist on upsetting nature’s balance?

I know. I have really mixed feelings about them because I do know that some dogs have died when fighting with them. The coypu have long orange fangs that are bacteria-ridden and sepsis quite often sets in when they bite the dogs. But when you see families of them, with their young gambolling around on the river/canal banks, and how fiercely they protect their young… the jury’s out for me.
