Attack! (Trifextra 33 Word Challenge)

DSCF1895

Frantic fingers fumble,

searching, carelessly casting things aside.

 She struggles, head swimming

lungs aching, panic rising.

 And then

rescue.

 A friend in need,

a friend indeed.

 Relax…

inhale…

 sod it… empty

 Now what?

It’s a while since I entered a Trifextra challenge.  This week the challenge was to write 33 words about ‘what scares you’.  This was my own particular nightmare.

About Sandra

I used to cruise the French waterways with my husband four or five months a year, and wrote fiction and poetry. Now I live on the beautiful Dorset coast, enjoying the luxury of being able to have a cat, cultivating an extensive garden and getting involved in the community. I still write fiction, but only when the spirit moves me - which isn't as often as before. I love animals, F1 motor racing, French bread and my husband, though not necessarily in that order.

Thank you for reading. I tried to comment on yours but couldn’t see how to do that easily, (or it wasn’t working). I enjoyed it though, very effective piece.

The panic starts again? The spacing of the words adds to the tension.

  7. I quit in 1999. Years later I was driving to a stressful situation and found myself digging in my purse. Looking for those cigs of long ago. No wonder I smoked.

Thank goodness I’ve never had an asthma attack – it sounds absolutely terrifying. Staying calm is important, but I don’t know how you stay calm when you can’t breathe!

I can relate. It is hard to do anything when you can’t breathe during an attack.
